Foa-flux produces much-needed data for a critical debate that is not hampered
from the start by self-limiting and ideological concepts.
As such, FOA-FLUX contributes to the ongoing re-evaluation of established reference systems and to the discussion on art worldwide.
One of FOA-FLUX‘s hallmarks is our ability to linking the scientific, artistic, and
applied production of knowlege with an informed exchange about art.
FOA-FLUX (co-)runs projects in Europe, southern Africa, South America, and South Asia.
We experiment with formats that combine information exchange, know-how development (among all participants), and peer review.
Our workshops bring together various stakeholders, such as artists, students, researchers, and educators.
A focused change of various communication forms helps to make different perspectives visible in a relatively short time – and to open up these perspectives for discussion. This approach also helps to support and satisfy the many expectations of those involved.

_____________ PHENOMENA _____
Ongoing globalization processes give rise to artistic phenomena that are
increasingly eluding traditional art research tools and methods.
Foa-flux examines concepts of Contemporary Art, Tourist Art, World Art
and the like, and thereby contributes to the debate on art in a global
context. Our guiding questions are: What are the criteria and premises
of these discourses? Who defines them? Which subjects are included,
which excluded? What are the differences between the various phenomena
and their reference systems?

_____________ REGIONS ________
Local situations are informed by both local and global issues. To draw
attention to these correlations, the «glocal» concept was introduced to
the discussions on globalisation. Foa-flux analyses what happens on
regional levels in specific places, contributes to the need for
phenomenological studies, and provides knowledge and know-how exchange.
Our guiding questions are: What are the specific conditions, ongoing
changes, and potentials of the production, distribution, and reception
of art within specific regional arenas? What is the relevance of art and
its influence on an international art discourse and vice versa?

_____________ ART & SOCIETY __
Manifold functions of art and individual preferences co-exist in glocal
and global contexts. With traditional art concepts losing their
credibility of in- and exclusion based on specific functions along with
hybrid functional claims, the role of artists within societies is highly
disputed. Our guiding questions are: What is the relation between the
self-perception of artists and how they are perceived by stakeholders?
How do these perceptions correspond with concepts and notions of the
functions of art?
